Festive Season Foliage
The holly and the ivy? In WA it's the parasite and the jacaranda.
These trees start blooming from late October and always signal to me that the end of year celebrations are about to begin.
This is the WA Christmas Tree, so called because it blooms just before Christmas. It is parasitic and sends out roots to tap into the roots of other trees.
Close up of flowers: it looks a bit ragged as I shot it rather late in the season.
I remember jacarandas to have yellow flowers in Singapore and Malaysia, but here they're purple. Here's one in the backyard of an old Ozzie cottage. Again, I was too late in the season with this.

Plane Crash Re-Enactment
A light plane crashed into a public space yesterday, not too far from us.
Today was little R's regular Tuesday with us, and he was very taken by the many photos of the crashed plane and rescue vehicles in the newspaper. (He's a plane, truck and car nut).
After C explained the crash to him, he brought out relevant toys and proceeded to do a re-enactment of the events on the newspaper.

In Big Sister's Footsteps
Deja Vu.
I posted this in 2009.
Now, 4 years later, R is about the same age as A was then, and is helping Grandma stuff Christmas cards into envelopes.

Vietnam in Cannington
A bit of Vietnam came to the City of Cannington today. (Cannington is the actual city in the metropolitan area of Perth in which we live).
(CCM, I brought you to this spot many years ago.)
The stage is set in the Canning River.
The crowd during the 1pm show (there were 2 others; at 3 and 5 pm.
A member of the troupe.
The souvenir stall.
Poor Fleming didn't enjoy it - his tail was right down. The Vietnamese music was too much for his westernised ears.
An activist took advantage of the event to hand out this pamphlet.
