Victim of Crime

No, not the doggie licking.

A few days ago at the local shopping centre, Cheryl was fitting new shoes on Ainslie when someone fished her wallet out of her handbag.

Ainslie must have seen it because she cried out "D'amar!" (what she says for "Grandma").

Cheryl then found her wallet gone.

She came home after reporting it at the Shopping Centre and phoned around to cancel credit cards, etc

When she tried to cancel the atm card, she was told $1000 had been taken out and we will have to bear the loss because she had the pin no written and in the wallet! (Despite my previous objections).

Later she went to the police who said it was the second case in that shopping that day.

Still, have to be grateful for the fact that it wasn't a robbery and bash up!

This reminds me of the last time we had a close call with crime. I blogged about this on 6 Jul 2005, on spymac.com:

I was standing outside a shopping center in the northern suburbs today, waiting while Cheryl went back to our car to fetch her purse.

I then heard a woman screaming abuse - "f---ing this and f---ing that".

I looked and she was seated in a car and yelling at this other woman, who was walking away from her and into the shopping centre.

As the automatic doors closed behind the second woman, the abuser reversed out of her lot and drove up in line with these doors, still screaming abuse.

She then pulled out a pistol and aimed it straight at the doors. I (with Flemington) was practically in her line of fire and about five metres from her.

Strangely enough, I was very engrossed in wondering whether the gun was real.

Cheryl had by this time returned and could see this woman with her pistol apparently pointing at me.

She waved at me to get away and I stepped a few paces back.

This woman then drove off.

The security guard showed up a little later and I told him about it. Cheryl had her licence number. There was another witness as well and the police rang me this afternoon and will come tomorrow to get a statement from me!

Which they never did!!!
