My neighbour in Still Road used to have this tree, and I used to pick and eat these cherries. If I remember rightly, they had white flowers before fruiting.
Yes, there was a tree behind us in Geylang. We used to call it the Cherry Tree, but we were warned not to taste them. The fruits made a mess of the surrounding ground.
Arthur, I still pass these trees in the morning while jogging along the cycling track by the East Coast at ECP. Not sure how they got there among the Casuarinas which also sprouted on the reclaimed land (extension of Marina Bay). However, it is in the same vicinity where those of us live(d)in the the East where we Haig and Geylang boys grew. We also used the green ones as catapult amunitions ...sufficient to cause pain but not hurt!

ReplyDeleteIt's called Buah Cherry. Yes, can be eaten, red ones are sweet. Birds' favorite & they mess up the place.
