New Toy
This new toy of mine is something which you frequent travellers from Singapore can do with.
It's a geotagger - some new cameras have this feature, and I believe some smartphones can do it too, with appropriate apps.
This does the same thing with my old camera.
You carry it around with you in your pocket and once switched on, it records your global position via GPS at set intervals of time and/or distance.
Your camera's clock is sychronised to this device and when photos and GPS data are downloaded to your computer, the necessary software geolocates your photos.
For example, here is my photo storage programme (Aperture) showing the where KC, GK and I had lunch and the location of the friend's house we visited.
And here is a test route I did with the doggies one morning:
Would be useful for something like the RI6365 South Ridge walk today.
Dead Body?
I've seen many a crime show with dogwalkers stumbling over a dead body and often wondered if it would ever happen to me.
Well, about a week ago, I saw what I thought was a large bundle of cloth in a far corner of the park near the swamp, during one of our morning dogwalks.
As we approached, Flem and Zhaan started investigating that bundle and it got their hackles up. They started barking at it.
I got closer and it was a man lying face down in the grass. By this stage, the dogs were making a helluva racket but the body did not move a millimeter.
I did the usual "Are you ok, can I help" sort of thing but there was no movement.
The dogs were barking madly, but wouldn't go within 3 feet of him, and I wasn't going to touch or shake him. I could see he was breathing, though.
After about 5 minutes of this barking and noise making, I decided I'd walk the dogs back home, get C's mobile phone and drive back to see if I'd need to call an ambulance.
Got back about half an hour later - brought the phone, my new toy the geolocator and my camera.
I walked around him taking photographs and the resulting geolocated photos are here:
He hadn't moved at all, so I dialed 000 (not 999 here).
As soon as I started talking to the emergency operator, the bastard raised his head and said "I'm ok mate".
♫♫♬♪ Now She's 64
When I turned 64 earlier this year, C baked my portrait on a cake.
I'm no cake decorator so I had this made:
Of course, A enjoyed helping C blow out the candles,
but R was a little bemused by it all.
