I'm On Google Maps Streetview

About 6 months ago, when I was getting my usual exercise on my bike, I saw a Google Maps Camera car coming out of a side road to my left.

If you haven't seen one of the Google Maps camera car, it looks like this, although the one I saw simply had "Google" on it.

The car gave me right of way, and then proceed to overtake me.

I wondered then if I would appear on Google Maps Streetview but then simply forgot all about it.

Recently, when driving around, we saw these Google cars again on two occasions.  These time the cars were unmarked, but with the same contraption on top.

That reminded me to check Google Maps Streetview.  The photos show the car overtaking me.

In this first one, you can see the shadow of the camera in the bottom left.

As they always do, they blurred out my face.

And off they went, leaving me far behind.
By the way, the little orange post you can see on the right of the picture is our bus stop.   This is a typical one in the suburbs; for busier ones they do have a shelter and seats.

If you want to see the Street View yourself, you can go to Google Maps and search for "Pegley Drive, Parkwood, Western Australia" and then switch to the Streetview option.

  1. Very interesting Arthur. I have read of the Google map camera car but this is the first time I've seen it. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I've seen it many times, but usually I'm in a car with many other cars around.

  3. They were around our part of the world not too long ago. Hmmmm...I should have tracked them down and waved at them from the side of the road. Hehehehehhehe!!!

    1. Lovely neighbourhood. I love this kind of environment or surroundings overseas...and the nice cool weather!

    2. Our summers (just over - Autumn started 1st March officially) are anything but cool. It can go up to 44 degrees Centigrade. This year, though, I must admit the summer was quite mild - only had 2 or 3 days over 40. The rest of the year can be pretty good.

  4. Arthur, very interesting indeed and educational for me as always. Your faithful bike - is it a mountain bike and how long has it served you? You know, your posts over the years......I have enjoyed them ....... they given me a glimpse of life down-under in Australia. Thanks for this. Anthony

  5. Hi Anthony, I'm glad you're enjoying the blog. This particular bike is a flat-bar road bike, and about 3 years old. My old Giant mountain bike was bought in 1995. I'll send you info separately.
