Last month, Son No 1 and myself went to a photographic swap meet and saw lots of old and antique cameras for sale.
Seeing all those old cameras made me nostalgic for the cameras I used to own, and, which over the years I had, in one way or another disposed of.
My first SLR was a little known camera in sixties Singapore - the Exa 500. Unlike most cameras available then, it was East German, not Japanese.
I found one on eBay won the auction at $20, but also had to pay postage of $15. It was cosmetically very good, but the shutter speeds were way off. This is fine, as I have no intention of using it.
Spurred by this success, I searched for my second camera, the Miranda Sensomat RE. Found one in the UK for ₤42, plus ₤15 postage.
The great feature of this camera is the removable pentaprism for waist level viewing, making it known as the poor man's Nikon. I remember shopping for this camera with Gek Piow.
My first Super-8 camera is on the way from NSW, and I'm also searching for bargains on this and this. The last two were borrowed cameras from my at that time future father-in-law to learn photography on.
