Nagasaki

From Nagasaki, we took a trip to Shimabara to see the castle there.

Moat is now used for public and market gardens.

Shimabara was the site of a rebellion; this statue of the teenage leader, later executed, was on the grounds of the castle.
Nearby was the Samurai Village, where the main street has a channel with clear spring water running through.
A couple of displays in the Samurai houses

Then we went to see the houses buried in a mudslide when Mt Unzen erupted in 1991.

Finally, a sayonara from the town of Nagasaki to the ship, with brass band and marching pompom girls.
